Another Friday, another potential snowstorm, another weekend messed up beyond belief, destined only to involve Scrabble and hot tea? That’s give-up talk. We here at INDenverTimes refuse to knuckle under to the fascist overlordship of the Weather.

1. Lucha Libre Mexicana

You read event co-organizer Sid Pink waxing excited about this Mexican wrestling extravaganza on our site two weeks ago — well, now you can quit running around the house in that cape and rhinestone-studded mask, because the big day hath finally arrived. Get hip to some of the biggest stars in the crazy-yet-strangely-wholesome world of Lucha, men like L.A. Park, Rey Misterio and Tinieblas Jr., at an event that your family will appreciate much more than yet another visit to the Button Museum

When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Where: National Western Complex
Cost: $10-$30
Information: www.fmll.net

2. Nirvana Memorial Show

We know what you’re likely thinking: what’s the point of a Nirvana memorial show now? Hasn’t Kurt’s corpse been laid to rest, literally and figuratively, for some time? And since dragging it up is Courtney Love’s cottage industry, what the heck are a bunch of talented Denver musicians like those in Dualistics — as well as members of Hello Kavita, Achille Lauro, Ghost Buffalo and many others—doing with this show? The answer is both obvious and oblique. It is the 15th anniversary of his passing, yes, but it’s also like hugging your mom. There’s simply never a bad time.

When: Doors at 8 p.m. tonight
Where: Hi-Dive, 7 S. Broadway
Cost: $6
Information: www.hi-dive.com

3. Denver Auto Show

Yes, you saw your last boss wearing fingerless gloves and holding a sign on Federal. Yes, you’ve begun to extract your own gold fillings for pocket change. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, we know, you’ve declared your home a sovereign nation and begun to print your own money — but tough times aside, you can still earn a cheap thrill by goggling at cars you can’t afford. And rest assured, almost every one you’ll see at this longtime auto event will fit that description. Unless you have had a lot of dental work.

When: 12 p.m.-10 p.m. today; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
Where: Colorado Convention Center
Cost: $10 adult, $5 kids age 7-12, under 6 free
Information: www.paragonexpo.com

4. Kids Saturday Nickelodeon: City of Ember

Families with children are eternally searching for affordable entertainment options: crayons, check. Television, yessir. Digging dozens of holes in the neighbor’s yard … well, maybe, depending on what’s on. Add to that list the Starz FilmCenter’s weekend movie event, which, in addition to being blessedly free, has the advantage of not driving the residents of your cul-de-sac to burn you in effigy. Again. This weekend’s installment, City of Ember, is a work of fantasy appropriate for kids ages 6-12.

When: 3 p.m. Saturday
Where: Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli
Cost: Free
Information: www.denverfilm.org

5. Hell’s Belles

You can have your Dark Star Orchestra, you can keep your Australian Pink Floyd Show, heck, you can even say adios to Super Diamond–there isn’t a better “tribute” band out there than all-female AC/DC cover outfit Hell’s Belles. Honestly, identifying them as such somehow seems diminishing; they may play songs by Angus and the lads, but the rock they channel arises from some cosmic source of ferocity that has no time for the idea of “tribute.” Unless it’s the variety that a conquered village pays to a victorious barbarian wearing a necklace of skulls. These days, Hell’s Belles are more AC/DC than AC/DC itself. They’ll play the albums Highway to Hell and Back in Black this evening; Dirt opens.

When: Doors at 8:30 p.m. tonight
Where: Fox Theatre, 1135 13th St.
Cost: $18, cash only at the door
Information: 303-443-3399
