BRIGHTON – A 3-year-old girl died Tuesday afternoon when a Penske rental truck hit a mini-van parked on the shoulder of Interstate 76 near the E-470 overpass.
Brighton Police Department spokesman John Bradley said the girl was in a child safety seat in the van at the time of the accident, which happened about 1:30 p.m.
The other passengers in the van, three adults and another young child, were transported to area hospitals. The driver of the rental truck was also transported. There was no information on their conditions.
Eastbound I-76 reopened about 5:30 p.m., some 3 1/2 hours after it closed. Bradley said police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident at this time.
