Local retailers have deep ties that reverberate throughout the community. This week’s offerings feature several local businesspeople who are facilitating donations to food banks and social service agencies or are engaged in projects specifically designed to strengthen the metro area’s economy.

Angel Book Project, Friday, Nov. 27, through Monday, Dec. 21, Kazoo & Company toy store, 2930 E. Second Ave., 303-322-0973, www.kazootoys.com.

Help your children learn about philanthropy through Kazoo & Co.’s Angel Book Project. A child who selects an angel star from the store’s Christmas tree will learn the name of a youngster selected by Denver Social Services who needs books. The child, with the help of a parent, then can select and purchase an age-appropriate book. Kazoo & Co. will make sure the designated child receives it and will donate an additional 10 percent of the total sum toward book purchases.

FISH delivered groceries to more than 2,800 area residents in 2008, about half of whom were children.

“Everyone knows that times are very hard for some of our neighbors. But not everyone knows that food banks are under extraordinary stress to meet the basic needs of their clients. In our own small way, Printed Page wants to help. Our 11 book dealers have more books than we can display, and East Denver FISH has more need than they can meet, so they’re a perfect match,” said Printed Page co-owner Dan Danbom.

    - The New York Post

Red House Records is pleased to announce the Fall, 2009 release
of 500 Miles: The Blue Rock Sessions, the new album from soulful
songwriter Cliff Eberhardt. A deeply personal album, it follows his
critically acclaimed The High Above and the Down Below, which was named
the #5 album of the year by USA Today. This new album proves what his
last indicated–that Cliff is in the midst of a personal and artistic renaissance.
Tucked away in the Texas Hill Country, Cliff recorded the twelve tracks to
500 Miles at the legendary Blue Rock Studio with some of Austin’s hottest
Players, helmed by acclaimed producer Billy Crockett , the recording is flavored by
the many sounds of Texas–Americana blues, Tex-Mex and soulful roadhouse ballads.
” An album of sonic superiority and first-rate
songwriting, 500 Miles: The Blue Rock Sessions shows that Cliff’s long musical road has led him to making this—his finest recording to date.

Chris Daniels is not related to Charlie or Jack so he’s had to bust his ass with his guitar, starting as a 17-year-old songwriter and guitarist back in the ’70s when he played with Kate Taylor, David Johansen (before the New York Dolls), and later with Russell Smith (after The Rhythm Aces). Daniels has performed thousands of shows In Us & Europe, touring 46 out of every 52 weeks. He also heads up his funky R&B and blues band, Chris Daniels and the Kings.

Daniels has worked making records with some of the most respected musicians in the business, including Sonny Landreth, Sam Bush, David Bromberg, Al Kooper, Bill Payne and Don Was, to name a few. As a record producer, he recently finished work on Hazel Miller’s ICONS, her award-winning jazz CD featuring Ron Miles.
