Rockies shut out Diamondbacks

Troy Tulowitzki hit his second home run in two games, a solo shot in the fifth inning, as the Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 on Tuesday in Phoenix in the second of the teams’ three-game series.

Ubaldo Jimenez got the win and new closer Huston Street got the save as the Rockies improved their record to 1-1 after losing the season opener 9-8 on Monday.

The Rockies added two runs in the eighth inning Tuesday. With one out, Clint Barmes doubled to left field and then Ian Stewart, pinch-hitting for Jimenez, singled to center to score Barmes. After Ryan Spilborghs grounded out, Dexter Fowler walked and Todd Helton followed with a single to center.

Jimenez pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and walking three while striking out eight. He won a pitching duel with Dan Haren. Haren also went seven innings but gave up one run and struck out nine.

The teams conclude their series at Chase Field on Wednesday before the Rockies return to Denver for their home opener on Friday against the world-champion Philadelphia Phillies.
