Ritter proposes three new armories

Gov. Bill Ritter has proposed new state funding to help the Colorado National Guard build new armories in Windsor, Grand Junction and Alamosa. (Northern Colorado Business Report)
At a Tuesday morning news conference in Denver, Ritter announced details of funding for the three new facilities. In his 2010-11 budget proposal to the legislature’s Capital Development Committee on Nov. 2, Ritter called for using $6.4 million from the Colorado Veterans Trust Fund and Real Estate Proceeds Fund to draw down $1.3 million in federal matching funds. An additional $10 million in federal funds will also be sought for the armories.
The armories would accommodate a new 800-soldier infantry battalion assigned to Colorado in 2007 as part of the Army’s “Grow the Force” initiative. The National Guard is recruiting for these battalions.
