Nurse to plead guilty in theft of painkillers from Boulder hospital

The surgical nurse accused of stealing drugs and giving patients saline solution instead is set to change his plea to guilty, 9News reports, citing court records.

The nurse, Ashton “Paul” Daigle, a 27-year-old from Lafayette, faces a 175-count indictment, accusing him of stealing narcotics from Boulder Community Hospital.

An attorney for Daigle filed a motion Monday that will allow Daigle to plead guilty to unspecified charges at a June hearing. Details of the plea agreement will not be made public until the hearing.

Daigle has undergone blood tests and tested negative for HIV and hepatitis. Some of the 300 potential victims have gotten similar tests. One is former Rocky Mountain News reporter Bill Scanlon who was the first to report Daigle’s admission at INDenverTimes.com.
