Nuggets run 'em ragged, head to Dallas up 2-0
IT'S THE ALTITUDE: I always enjoy seeing the effects that the altitude plays on Denver opponents. I sat watching the Nuggets closing out the third period of last night's playoff matchup against the Mavericks really strong. It was all over. The Nuggets played the fourth quarter to perfection, playing tenacious defense and running the basketball down the collective panting throats of the Mavs. It was brilliant and a vision of why the Nuggets are so very dangerous in the playoffs right now. When they move the ball, force it inside for easy shots, it is a thing of beauty. It sets up the threes so well. The Nuggets outplayed the Mavs in the first two games. It goes back to Dallas, and the going will be a bit tougher. if the Nuggets can steal one there, it makes the Nuggets' chances to advance very good. Seven games into this winning playoff games thing that us Nuggets fans still haven’t quite gotten used to, I find myself asking the same question over and over again as these games progress…
“Is this it? Is this where it starts?”
The “it” I’m referring to, of course, is the Nuggets’ nightly run that usually comes midway through the third quarter of these home playoff games. But tonight, it came a bit later than usual.
Better late than never.
Entering the fourth quarter tonight, the Nuggets were up only three and the Mavericks were admirably holding their own considering Josh Howard had been lost for the night. A few minutes later, the Nuggets were up 17 thanks to an unrelenting 16-2 run. Neither the Mavericks nor the Pepsi Center crowd knew what had hit them.
“Ah,” I thought about five minutes into the game’s final stanza and was finally able to relax a bit. “This is it.”
