New law allows golf carts on roads

Tom Coker drives his tricked-out golf cart around the Heritage Eagle Bend Golf and Country Club community.
The law will also allow such vehicles to cross roads of high speed.
The Neighborhood Electric Vehicles — as they’re called — must come equipped with the proper lighting, mirrors and markings.
“These vehicles are a greener way to travel around town — to the store, to drop the kids off at school, to dinner and a movie — and I can’t wait to see these vehicles on city streets from Fort Collins to Alamosa,” said the law’s co-sponsor, Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass.
Previously, such access for NEVs was illegal unless a town or city had voted otherwise.
Berthoud, for example, passed an ordinance last year that allowed NEVs to use roads within town limits.
Aurora made a similar allowance in 2002 but relegated the golf carts’ movement to within a small area around Heritage Eagle Bend Golf and Country Club.
“It makes it easier if you’re going to go to Safeway or go pick up something,” said Tom Coker, who drives his tricked-out golf cart around the country club community.
Having kept his eye on the golf cart-friendly area, Aurora Councilman Ryan Frazier says he has no reservations about the
the statewide change.
“So far it’s worked well in Aurora, so it should be interesting to see how it works out (elsewhere),” Frazier said.
NEV drivers will have to register their vehicle, and fines will apply for those who break the new law.

This is the slippery slope to Barney Rubbleville.
This is the end result of the JokerBarraco running G. M.
Waiting for the safety-mongers involved with airbags, crash tests and their dummies with yellow triangles painted on their heads.
Waiting for the City and County of Denver to let me drive my fly yellow Cyclops II LeMans winning prototype over to the Denver Country Club.
Gene,
I read this article and thought it was interesting due to the fact that this has been happening for a long time already. An example, Sun City, Arizona. There are tons of these golf carts on the road in Sun City, with very similiar laws. By your reasoning, could one blame Sen McCain (Sen-R) for allowing this Barney Rubbleville to happen in Arizona? Which by the way, these golf carts save the elderly money on a whole slew of transportation issues they face by allowing them the use of a golf cart. Maybe one should listen and learn from an elder every now and then.

Ben,
Agree with you, . . . up to that Howard Zinn recommendation. Whoa.
Gene,
It is fun to open up your mind to new ideas and experiences. One of the greatest benifits the military has to offer is to serve with felow Americans from all walks of life, then add onto all the experiences one gains from being deployed or stationed in foreign countries and learning from them.
Plus, it was only a recommendation to read the book.
How about this recommendation then: “WAR IS A RACKET” by Major General Smedley D. Butler – USMC Retired.

I have been starting to learn playing golf recently. Do you know what model of golf clubs is best for a newbie like me? Thanks

Unfortunately, most people won’t have proper liability coverage protection for use of these vehicles on public roads.
Most insurance policies EXCLUDE coverage, unless the individual has a special endorsement or insures the golf cart as a vehicle on his/her automobile policy.
This law puts other drivers and pedestrians at risk!
