Members of the Vancouver Canucks celebrate a goal against the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center on Saturday night, Nov. 14.

Henrik Sedin had his first career hat trick and Steve Bernier scored twice as the Vancouver Canucks ended their scoring drought by routing the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 on Saturday night.

Mason Raymond and Ryan Johnson each had three assists for Vancouver, which matched its offensive total for the three previous games by scoring three goals in the first period — two by Sedin and one by Jannik Hansen.

Sedin has 9 goals and 17 points in 17 games since his twin brother and linemate, Daniel, went down with a broken foot.

Roberto Luongo was solid in goal for the Canucks while recording his first win since Oct. 25. He returned this week after missing six games with a broken rib.

The Avalanche got goals from Marek Svatos and Matt Hendricks five minutes apart in the third period to make it 4-2, but the Canucks quickly responded with goals from Bernier and Sedin, who completed his hat trick at 12:53. Bernier scored again before Tanner Glass completed the rout with 15 seconds remaining.

Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson, making his 19th start, allowed three goals on Vancouver’s first five shots. He was replaced by Peter Budaj to begin the third period after giving up four goals on 22 shots.

Rick Sadowski is the former Colorado Avalanche beat writer for the Rocky Mountain News.
