Edgewater boy, 2, drowns in Vail creek

A toddler drowned in Gore Creek in Vail on Sunday morning.

Although a construction worker pulled 2-year-old Colin Cassidy from the creek before a search team arrived and passers-by administered CPR, they were unable to revive him, said Vail spokeswoman Suzanne Silverthorn.

Colin had been reported missing by his mother a few minutes before the construction worker pulled him out of the creek east of the Cascade Resort.

Sara Cassidy, of Edgewater, told police she was tending to her baby daughter when the boy wandered away. They had been walking along the recreation path near the Wren condos. The family was in Vail, including Colin’s father, Chris Cassidy, for a lacrosse tournament.

Snow melt and recent rain have the creek running high.
