Michael Vick thinking about a Rocky Mountain High?

Michael VIckHold your breath.

At least that way your face might turn blue instead of red.  The Michael Vick to Denver rumors have officially started.

Of course, at such an early state, it should be remembered that the rumors, for now, are just that.  Vick’s agent has said that football is “on the back burner for now.”  But that’s how the hiring of Josh McDaniels and the “firing” of Jay Cutler began.  If there’s one thing that could put those landmark decisions in perspective, it would be the addition of one of the most controversial scourges the NFL has ever seen.

So again, get ready for the message boards to fill and the local news to buzz.  True or not, this story’s going to make for good copy.

Before you decide to whack me on the nose with your last rolled up copy of a print newspaper, you might want to start rolling the idea around in your head.  Vick gets out of prison this week, and while he’ll have to head east to his Virginia home for two months of house arrest, the talking heads are already spewing the possibility of a return to the West.  More specifically, Dove Valley.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re not alone.  Why on Elway’s green turf would the Broncos take a chance on Vick?

I don’t know.  Sure, Vick has served his debt, or at least he will have in time to make late-July practices.  And it’s not like the NFL hasn’t allowed for the return of some questionable characters in the past.  Ray Lewis is still playing.  Cecil Collins got his chances.  Albert Haynesworth stomped on the face of a fellow player a few seasons before signing a 100 million dollar contract.  Vick’s return is no longer a slight possibility, it’s rounding the corner on becoming a foregone conclusion.

But why Denver?  Maybe because the media on the outside is still scratching their heads over the Jay Cutler trade.  Maybe they think that with McDaniels at the helm, anything is possible.  But dropping a runny-nosed prima donna and picking up a safe, savvy passer is a far cry from employing a guy with the baggage of Michael Vick.

I’ve heard the whispers that the new staff is enamored with the “wildcat” formation.  And from a pure talent perspective there might not be a better-suited athlete to run that scheme.  It’s not like Kyle Orton and Chris Simms are in any danger of being mistaken for Usain Bolt.  Still, something just doesn’t feel kosher about Vick the Bronco.  The controversy cup in Denver has to be full by now.  We’re trying to run an organization here, not a VH1 reality show.  I’d rather see Ryan Clady line up under center if it meant one week of flying under the radar.

So take it with a grain of salt.  And hopefully the whole thing will blow over.  But if I’d told you a year ago that Mike Shanahan would be replaced by a 34-year-old first time head coach would you have believed it?  How about if I’d said that the 4-8 Chargers would complete an unlikely run to the postseason by hanging 52 points on the Broncos?  Anyone put any money on Jay Cutler throwing to Devin Hester… on purpose?

Anyway, you can breathe again.   Just try not to hyperventilate when you see the first PETA billboard speaking out against “Horse Fighting.”

If we get Vick, what are we going to do with him? It’s not like we need another QB. I would rather run the system McDaniels ran in New England with the guys we already have.

  2. jonny says:

I don’t blame Vick .. he wants to get paid … and that will only happen at a team that doesn’t have a QB … it will be a LONG road back for the donkeys

  3. I’d love to see Vick back in orange (the Hokies wear orange and maroon)! The guy was an idiot, but he’s not a horrible person. Did he bring a loaded gun to a crowded bar in his waistban? Did someone on in his posse shoot and paralyze a bouncer? Being from VA, I know he grew up with some manners whether he chooses to use them or not. Hey, Bronco Nation has no expectations at this point so let’s have some fun and see what we can pull off!

If the Bronco’s hire this non-evolved, heartless douchebag they will lose a lot of support. Anyone who brings this “person” onto their team has a financial death wish as far as I’m concerned.

  4. Bryce says:

The broncos would merk teams if we got vick. give him a chance, and if she blows put good ol orton in there.

  5. Willie says:

He forgot to mention that he is the one starting the rumor.

  6. The Glenn says:

You are silly if , even after two years of prison , you believe Kyle Orton is better than Michael Vick . Him or Chris Simms will get killed behind that terrible O Line you have . A mobile qb is exactly what you need . The Broncos are the best fit for Michael Vick . Denver is getting a major break .

    • Rocketman says:

Horrible O line… BWHAHAHAHAH thanks for putting your ignorance on display for the entire NFL community.

    • Olivier says:

This response is to Glen who thinks that any of the present QB’s would get no protection from Denvers Offensive line. First of all Denver had the 2nd best Offence last year and yes Cutler had a lot to do with that but the protection was there and either Orton or Simms will be well protected. I’m not sure why you think that Vick would be a better fit when he hasn’t played a game in two plus years. Wishful thinking on your part but maybe you meant the Defensive line, cause everyone knows the front seven aren’t the prize of the league. Denver fans will need to be patient as it looks like it’s going to take a few years to return to the glory years. If they can get a true nose tackle and a few more defensive pieces then this could be a promissing team. I can not understand why “fans” are counting the team they love out before a single snap has even taken place. If your a so called fan then act like one and get behind your team. I really liked Shanahan but lets face it, when you can’t manage to fix a team and lose the last three games when all he needed was one win…. that was painful to watch. Let’s hope change brings in a better result and proves the nay sayers wrong. Go Broncos!!!

  7. Give the brother a chance. Gives the Broncos a chance too!

  8. Duece Bigalow says:

    Terrible O line????

You are smoking something wrong The Glenn. Denver has the best line in the league, all players are returning from last year and had the fewest sacks of any in the league last year. Cutler got sacked only 12 times! Not to mention we have some of the best receivers… Cutler had a gifted arm, but no QB looks good if their line cannot block and receivers cannot catch.

You must be a Chargers or Raiders fan to think like you do, seriously.

Oh God, if we get Vick…I’d put my life savings on us winning the Super Bowl. Hell I’m even sure John Elway would be willing to let him wear number 7 Because he’s so sick of all these damn mediocre quarterbacks standing behind center. Remember the good old days of standing behind your Guard John? If all these dog people stop complaining about him using dogs to fight, maybe the dogs could learn to talk and they say they want animal rights then I’ll start to listen, Damnit I’ll even be the first one to stand at my local football stadium(AZ) and protest about Vick being allowed back into the NFL. But as it stands right now I don’t think dogs comprehend the complexities of the english language.

Newborn babies don’t understand english and I’m pretty sure that doesn’t make it ok to beat them to death. You must be the single most ignorant person on earth.

  10. Nick says:

I agree that Vick has paid his debt to society, but he should not be hired by the Denver Broncos, or any other NFL team. Many of you will point out that many people have broken the law and been accepted back into the NFL (if they were even kicked out for it). However, Vick didn’t do something stupid like driving one night when he had a little to much to drink, He knowingly set up and ran a criminal enterprise for several years. I am a die hard Broncos fan and have been ever since I was old enough to understand football, but that will immediately end if we sign Vick. Like I said earlier, He’s paid his debt to society and deserves to be free and live his life, but the NFL is at the end of the day an entertainment business, and a privilege. I will never cheer for this man or the team that supports him.

  11. Erok says:

Things happen unexpected, mike vick going to the donkeys will blow people out of the water.

  12. Alex Neth says:

“But as it stands right now I don’t think dogs comprehend the complexities of the english language.”

Neither do you, but no one has beaten you to death. Also: you are very, very stupid.
