Google Mail outage has customers grousing
As of 2 p.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday, Gmail was down and its users have turned to the #googlefail channel on Twitter to grouse about it.
The Google Apps Status Dashboard is showing a service outage. At the time this article was filed, trying to visit http://mail.google.com returned a server error.
In Google’s Gmail forum, users claiming to be in Italy, Germany, France, and Taiwan, along with users from various states in the U.S., report being unable to access Gmail.
At 11:12am PT, Google posted the following: “We’re aware of a problem with Google Mail affecting a small subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Google Mail. We will provide an update by August 31, 2009 11:30:00 AM UTC-7 detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.”
At 12:28 a.m., Google posted an update stating that service has been restored for some users and that it expects access will restored for all users “in the near future,” with the caveat that this estimate may change.
A Google spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
