Ed Stein: State of the Union

In a word, the state of the union is ANGRY! The question for the president and for both parties to figure out is, at what? Because we have a two-party system, the only choice people have if they don’t like what’s happening is to vote for the other guy, even if the other guy is largely responsible for what’s happening, and the guy that’s in there now is in there because of the other guy’s mistakes. People are angry at deficits, largely run up by the irresponsibility of the Bush administration, and topped off by Obama. They’re angry that the bankers who got us in this mess are making millions while we lose our shirts, thanks mainly to deregulation promoted primarily by Republicans (but signed off on by Clinton). They’re angry about jobs, but there’d be a  lot more of them if the stimulus package had been larger, which would have increased the deficit, which they’re angry about. They’re angry that Washington seems wholly beholden to special interests, so they’re going to vote for the party that loves special interests at least as much as the party in power now. They’re angry at the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which were started by the party they just voted out a year ago. They’re angry that Obama has accomplished so little of his agenda, so they’re going to vote for the party that has unanimously opposed every single aspect of it.

I’m angry, too, and I get to draw cartoons about what I’m angry about, which doesn’t solve any of the problems, but makes me feel good. I’m a Tea Party of one.

    Haud ineo Arto.

Excuse me, I couldn’t follow “The other guy,” and the other guy. Heck of a lot of the other guy. Excuses, excuses. Reality is . . people are catching on to this nothingburgher.

Ed – you are spot-on with this. Hopefully, somewhere down the line (soon!) something will change to correct the course we’ve been on for some time now….

    • Ron Fortier says:

Sorry, Ed, but neither Obama or the Republicans get it. It was independents who got him elected, because he promised them change. Then upon being elected, he mistakenly thought everyone in the country had gone left…and that’s how he’s run things, as a liberal. That’s not what the people who elected him wanted. They wanted him to preside from the center and he has not done that. So the same independents voted Scott Brown in, a Republican, winning in a state where Democrats register three to one over Republicans. The message they sent with Brown’s victory is everyone…Obama
and Republicans…move to the damn center where the will of the American public truly resides. Anyone politician who thinks he can govern from either extreme right or left, is deaf, dumb and blind to the will of the people.

    Sorry Fortier,
McCain was center, just like all his opposition wanted.
Except when it came time to vote, . . . . . nobody voted for him.

    brian,

Dont you just love it that there are just you and me that have got reason in this thinking. It is also ed that has shown to have the renewed trust in obamas good acts for the common man. Plus there are all those cheny men that have changed the media and got brown put into office in mass. He is there in mass getting all those right winged nuts to take kennedys seat away from its owners. Ed is back to being spot on and shows that the cheny media did not get to him. And ed shows that all people of the world love obama and are upset that righ winged nuts are listening to false facts about obama. Dont give up the faith brian in the election promises of obama that he is getting done for men of all races.

    Arto,

When I stated “haud ineo” I was trying to communicate – ‘I would not be commenting’ – as that had been requested of me by several of Ed Stein’s dip head readers. I was certainly not trying to silence you.

But now that Ed Stein is upset with Obama, I can’t keep silent anymore. !

Scott Brown has shown there is a common man out there and they cannot be kept silent.

Gene – I disagree with 99.98% of what you say, but as long as you don’t “flame” other posters, you have as much right to speak as anyone. For myself, I enjoy your posts, even tho sometimes I have to shake my head and wonder what planet you live on. Several of the debates between you, me, arto, & Benjamin have been a lot of fun, and even occasionally enlightening.

You have the same First Amendment right to freedom of speech that I do – don’t let them silence you!!!

    geneo,

It is eident that you do not see that obama has doen so much good. Give obama credit for all the electrion promises has has full filled. Obama shoes that bush just did not know how to spend enough moneys to make the usa great. That is what ed is said in the cartoon. That bush coudl spend but not near enough and obam showed him how to think big and to spend with lots of moneys. How else do you think this economy is to get better. And if the usa does not spend then how are companys suppsed to get jobs made. That is the true facts of obama that will make this so much better.

    Arto,

By George, by George by George I am going to comment, even in my haud ineo status.

It is evident after last night that Obama hasn’t done much good even with himself – thank God. Enough said on that loser. Turn up the radio and listen to Mozart, not politics last night. And I am glad you appreciate Gene Amole.

What if funny, is I can still comment on Ed Stein’s looney column but InDenverTimes makes it impossible to comment directly on the Estrich/Barone/Prager/Michelle M./other big time columns. (Conason is not a bit time column) . . So pile on poor limp Ed Stein where I am permitted to attach a comment, but not say “s o c i a l i s m” ! ! . . . . Susan Estrich this morning on abortion defense says “. . the situation facing a teenage girl pregnant with a child she cannot raise. .” . . that is her first example for justifying abortion. Now, abortion is not one of my causes, one way or the other, however if one must come down on it, obviously it cannot be defended. However, what a way to justify . . “a child she cannot raise.” Obviously it needs to be killed. Amazing.

Where is the common sense and wisdom and color of Gene Amole from the Democrat side?

    • marymor_denver says:

Gene – I agree 100% (go figure! :-) ) with your complaint about not being able to comment on Barone, et. al. My response is to simply not read them – any of them.

  9. Gene says:

Errata; I meant to say “Conason is not a BIG time column.” I was trying to marginalize him.

    And thanks, Mary.
I had a laugh thinking back to the time you warned Art that he had agreed with me on something. It was obviously a mistake on his part!

  10. ReasonableArt says:

    geneo,

Of course i did not make any mistakes. Look at all that i have shown of reason. Of course it takes the true facts to get to the reason. Obama had the true facts in his talk and showed the usa and the world how he had done his good acts. Kind of like the great leader he is. Even ed sees that obama is good. Down right the best wih fixing bush errors. Many had doubted but they now see the hope and change real clear. And they are all happy that they voted for him as usa president. Dont forget to look at all his election promises that are full filled.

    Arto,
Because you can handle the truth, I am going to link below, a Letter to President Obama from Rush Limbaugh. So you will not have to go to his website and be embarrased, this is reproduced in a post at Free Republic. It is titled, . . “A Little Fatherly Advice To Barack.” This is common man talk. Not egghead intellectual talk. Professor Gates at Harvard would not be able to understand it. Ed Stein may be able to understand it, but would not read it. Our good friend Mary would not take it seriously. Boob bait. But the common man Democrats in Mass. have figured all this out. It is not news to them. Does one have to live under the ego of Ted Kennedy for 47 years to figure this out?

  12. ReasonableArt says:

    mary,

Do not listen to that sly cheny man of rush. Obama is the one with hope and change and rush just hypnotizes you like a serpent. I know that it is not good for the common man and that it is a trick to listen to rush. This is what cheny wants of common men to listen to false facts and get confused.
