Ed Stein: Lost in Space
After a week off to work on a special ultra-double-secret project, I’m back. I’m so tired of the endless Washington ugliness, I decided to go elsewhere (sort of) for a cartoon subject. As a long-time space geek, I’m as troubled as anyone by the seeming lack of direction at NASA, its inability to leapfrog the old technology and come up with the next generation of space flight. Canceling the Constellation project was probably the right thing to do, given the lack of imagination and the bloated costs of the program, but it was still a blow to those of us who are still impossibly smitten with the allure of space exploration. Given the economic realities, we’re in no position to continue throwing billions at manned space travel when unmanned missions are so much less expensive and produce important science, but the incurable romantic in me argues that man wasn’t built to sit safely at home while robots do the work. We need to go there and see for ourselves.

You voted for him.
Yeah, like Bush wouldn’t have indefinitely delayed (read: canceled) the project by now. I’ve said before & I’ll say again, there was/is plenty of blame to go around regarding the Economic Meltdown & how it was handled after it happened. However, NO administration would have been able to get away with pouring billions into a moon project while throwing trillions at the Economy.
ed,
As always you get it spot on. How easy it is to see that the usa will soar with the good leadership of the usa with obama. And we are so glad that the majoritys of usa people know that obama has the best answers. Really good to know that you like space travel also. Do believe i may have been a young man of your ages when the usa first put neil on the moon. Looks like Everyone will see that obama is nto afraid to spend money to make us the best. So do not loose faith in obama to spend money on the space travels. Since it is as you said before that the spending is what makes us better. Only do not think we should stop with just usa race people to be on the moon. Now is the time to put a kenyen in space.

Oh, Mary,
Now it is “Bush didn’t do it, . . . but he would have.” . . . . love it !!!!!
A more competent approach might be something other than “. . throwing trillions at the Economy.”
Gene – yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know you are one of my favorite people to argue with, right??
Mary,
♫ ♥ ♪ ♣ . . getting harder isn’t it?
No, not really. I think each of us has learned a few things from the other, even tho our fundamental viewpoints remain very different. We may poke at each other occasionally, and we definitely get exasperated with each other (geez, sounds like we’re married), but we treat each other, if not necessarily each others’ opinions, with respect.
For the record, you made several statements over the last couple of weeks that I REEEELLY wanted to rebut, but couldn’t get in. The only reason this time I’ve been gone is ‘cuz of technical difficulty.
Heck, I even talked up IDT, AND you (you may blush now *
* ) on facebook today, when I got fed up with someone who couldn’t be bothered to let facts get it the way of her opinion. When I hit you with facts you disagree with, you come right back with opposing facts (not to be confused with opinions).
Hopefully, I have done the same, my friend. -Mary
Ed, I completely agree with you. The reality is what it is, but it’s harsh. Especially given what we stand to gain if we could just get ourselves OUT there.
OK – enough with the sappy crap.
Arto- you are so obsessed with Obama, we could show you a picture of a boa constrictor & you would find a way to relate it to how Obama is making the world a better place.
Geneo – you are so obsessed with the Democrats in general, we could show you a picture of a Model-T, and you would talk about how the Republicans could have built it better.
This cartoon is about space exploration, the costs & benefits thereof. I would love to hear your opinions about whether space exploration is worth it, and why or why not.
mary,
How come you doubt obama- have you been listening to right winged media. Even if you did there is help you just need to stop. Lets get serious and you see that obama is not a lier and he promised hope and change. It is all right there in his election promises that all woudl be better and that is why you and me gave him our votes for usa president. Even ed knew that obama was a big change and is so much different then what he have before in other presidents. Do not let those right winged nuts tr to confuse you with snake storys like the snake and eve.

Art,
I think Mary likes me.
Okay,
Ed’s cartoon exhibits a frustration with the reality of Obamaism. Sorry, to bring it up, but sooner or later these problems get to be hung around the neck of O. I support the space program. It is just that you guys are starting to find out where O.’s priorities lie.
I just saw Michael Ramirez’s new cartoon – He has Rahm as Norman Bates in the Psycho shower scene with the knife labeled “healthcare” – brilliant and funny. Find it at;

geneo,
She likes me geno no tyou. How can you not see that as we both know how good obama is. Even she voted for him. He is the one with true information. And mary and i know that we are to smart to be lied to. So take you t model and crank away. Because you do not see that obama is not afraid to spend money to make the usa the best. It is a shame that very few people liek me an mary still have the beleif in the hope and changes. This just goes to show you that cheny media is sly.
art
mary,
to answer your questions about space travel i think it is a good things to do for the usa and the worlds. the usa space programs has brought many inventions and prosperous technology to the usa people. it is sad that nasa does not share the vision on hope and change and looks to make the usa even greater. we people that do know about hope and changes need to speak up more and have the usa get even better.
sorry you are mad at me aout believing obama. i know you must be frustrated with all the cheny media talking bad about obama. you and i know all the election promises of obama and we know he did not lie. we need to stand brave and not let the right winged nuts talk false information.

While I think Mary was trying to set us up with the boa constrictor / Model-T Rorscharch test, I will bite.
Boa constrictor . . . while this is your baby, my take would be; Obama’s approach to the economy, where he strangles the death out of the economy so he can rebuilt it in his radical s o c i a l i s t version of Europe-ism controlled statism. It is a great analogy. Strangle it and bring it to its knees. He has succeeded in that.
Model-T . . . Depicts the success of capitalism and innovation as demonstrated by Henry Ford. I think it was George Orwell who coined “the year of our Ford.” Ironically it is the Ford Motor Company who has so far out-performed the goberment motors of DepressingObama. Ford did more for the common man with his $5 / day wage than any union since.
That would be my take, Mary !
Errata . . it was Huxley.
The novel begins in London in the “year of Our Ford 632″ (AD 2540 in the Gregorian Calendar). The planet is united as The World State under a peaceful world government established in the aftermath of an apocalyptic global war in the 21st century; a government which has eliminated war, poverty, crime and unhappiness by creating a homogeneous high-tech society across Earth, based on the industrial principles of Henry Ford. Fordism forms the bedrock of the new society, gaining a quasi-religious status and forming the backbone of political and economic ideologies. Society is rigidly divided into five classes and all members of society are trained to be good consumers to keep the economy strong. All citizens are expected to be involved socially; spending time alone is discouraged and sexual promiscuity is norm. Recreational drug use has become a pillar of society and all citizens regularly swallow tablets of soma, a narcotic-tranquilizer that makes users mindlessly happy. A significant aspect of the society is the mechanisation of reproduction. Citizens of the World State do not reproduce naturally; people are taught to view natural reproduction as a primitive act. Instead, all children are created from embryos grown in factories: production of embryos is planned according to the economic capacity of society. For the embryo, the womb is replaced by an artificial life support mechanism referred to as a bottle. Significantly, each individual’s destiny is determined long before he or she is “decanted”.
Art cornered me in the shower, but I got away. Give the space program over to the private sector. If the American people find it necessary to go to space, let them donate money to go to Mars. In fact, I’ll donate as much as can, just to send Art there. Maybe there, at least, the martians will ‘educate’ Art in the art of spelling and grammar. However, being so far away from Obama, he may not last so long.
Matt,
If you are able to be near an AM radio today for the 2nd hour of the Rush show, (MST 1:10 pm KOA 850),
Rushbo takes it to Obama. A body slam. – - “Voters got fooled into electing this guy. Obama knows it. He has 3 more years to ram thought all the 1960′s hippie radicalism possible (he now wants to outlaw fishing!) and he knows he will not get reelected. He does not care how many D.’s he takes with him. This is his one opportunity to screw America as much as possible. i.e. poor Sen. Bennett. Ha. Sooner or later, O. is going to snap and let it out – - ”
I would hope Mary and Ed Stein would listen. They need to be exposed to “alternative” i.e. real thought.
I heard it! Couldn’t have been more right! Most people criticize Rush, and have never even heard a full day of his show. Talk about Judgemental and Intolerant!
I am glad to see that Ed Stein finally acknowledged unReasonable Art, and even named a cartoon after him.
geneo,
Each person knows what you sly things you are up to. You just want to trick pople into the thought that they believed lies. Every one knows that obama has the true information and did not lie to the voters for usa presidents. So you can quit those sly cheny tricks. Not everyone has to listen to cheny medias. Obama should get the medias and have them print only the true information about him. What business does ed have if not standing up for the good of obama. Obama is eds favorite and ed knows that obama got eds vote because ed is reasonable like ole art. Per haps you should get mary to tell you the true information of why she voted for obama. Even you can then see that it is because she is smart and reasonable and beleives the true iformation about obama. Not those ole cheny lies that obama is not doign all his election promises.
mary,
Yest it is so good to see you again. Obama likes your support and is glad you still know about his hope and change. Unless you and me and ed stick by him and his true election promises that cheny may get his sly ways. And then we will have to really work to keep obama in the usa president office so he can do more good works. Right now all the common man needs to stand behond obama. Each help he gets is a way to stop cheny. And it is a way to help obama continue all the help and good he has done. So it is good to see we can count on you to support the obama election promises. And we have seen them work as good as they said they would. Please do not doubt obama and fall into that cheny trap of right winged nuts that call obama a lier.

Argh!!! Great responses, but I’m sick – the crud came down on me like a ton of bricks yesterday. Hopefully, this thread won’t disappear before I can sit up for more than 90 seconds. I really care about this particular subject.
More soon… I hope. ~mary
Get well Mary.
My Rx would be, . not what Matt did yesterday at 1:10 pm. .
But as Dan Rather would say, “courage.”
. . . and not the “watermelons” thing.
(I would be moderated)
Hey! What did I do at 1:10?
Matt,
I was suggesting Mary NOT listen to Rushbo like you did yesterday. Mary is a fine person, but I am afraid she could not handle hearing the things said on that program. Once she gets stronger, I may recommend it,
I’ve been away for a while myself mostly because of a specific person that comments on here and their negativity gets really old. I wouldn’t have a problem as long they didn’t fight everyone.
In any case, I was sad to hear about NASA and all their stuff going on but on the plus side, the private industry is taking off. Just take a look at the X-Space and all those other sponsored programs!
In fact, that specific person’s comment is likely to be just below this comment. However, I won’t read it like their other stuff lol. It’s just a waste of time.
ray,
O man it is good to see you back. But it is sad to me that i upset you. And i always try to keep positive but i must have failed. Maybe i should focus more on the good acts we see in the usa. And how all the election promises are being done. Looks like i will try to not be negative and try not to fight. It is just important to me that people see the truths. Even that people will see the big picture. Dont give up on me and try to give me another chance as you and me know we need to stand up for hope and change.
art
ray,
So it does look like you are mad at me. Of course i am really sorry. Really sorry about being negative. Each post i do tries to show the good acts. Let me have another chance please. Otherwise i will loose you as another one with good reason. Since the cheny media is so sly the few smart ones of us are fewer and fewer. Ed even loses some faiths in the good acts. Right as mary can be she gets to doubt a little for herself.
art
Arto,
Here I thought he was talking about me!
Art,
Glad to see you touting the communist agenda without abandon! Your constant harpings on the conspiatorial ‘Cheny’ (That’s ‘Cheney’ by the way) media really get annoying; and the longer you continue to sound off that loose cannon, the people are going to see your posts and just flat ignore them. In fact, that’s what I believe ‘Ray’ is trying to tell you. Try contributing something semi-substantial to the discussion rather than the typical ‘Obama is the christ’ and ‘down with the cheny media’ horse manure.
Et Tu Artus ?
I notice Obama now has both the left and right mad at him.
geneo,
Right you are to see that the left and right have it made with obama. And that is because they will get health care soon. You see how people are getting the hope and changes. Since every is so much better liking the usa it is also good. Help for all common man has made the usa people a lot happier. Usually it takes a lot for people to be so happy as they are now. This shows how smart the usa people are that voted for hope and change. Unless that cheney is so sly as to confuse some people. Perhaps you see how similar art and obama are.
art
Obama Akbar ! Arto
It is probably not polite for me to keep posting Michael Ramirez cartoons on Ed Steins’ site,
but our country is on the verge of being destroyed and someone has to tell the truth !!!!!!!!!
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/03/025817.php
geneo,
But i am tellign the true information. You have seen how i am doing this for people of the usa. Perhaps i can get others to see the true information. And they can then do the right things. Right now it is good to see the facts of hoope and change. Obamas election words are beign seen for everyone to know. Denver times is a good place for me to start with the true information. You have seen how reasonable art is now then geneo.
art
hoope is right . . .
Poor Art, what what’s going to happen when Obama leaves office in 2013. His whole world is going to implode. If Obama said the sky was green, Art would believe it, just because Obama said so. Talk about a guy who really can’t think for himself.
It would be cheaper if about 3 of us went together and paid for Ed Stein’s healthcare than be saddled with this ObamaCAre crap the rest of our lives.
Time to wake up America.
Why do you want to go into slavery just to please MasterHisselfObama?
The revolution is coming,
. . regarding the revolutiion; John Hinderocker reports on a rally today at the Minnesota capital, of 2,000 to 4,000 people . . “Does all of this activism matter? It won’t stop the Democrats from doing whatever they have to do to pass a government takeover bill, but it’s critical to continue building momentum to take the House back in November, begin efforts to repeal Obamacare should it pass, and generally reclaim our country from the reckless spendthrifts now at the wheel in Washington.”
. . . . same source above, using graphs from Investors Business Daily, summarizes a long post, thus . . . “Is it going too far to say that the Democrats are selling our children into servitude in order to finance a government that is wallowing in luxury we cannot afford? That sounds extreme, doesn’t it? But for how many years do you think your own children will have to labor to pay off the debt that the Democrats are inflicting on them?
I don’t think Barack Obama will get a second term, but at the pace the Democrats are going, four years may do more damage than our country can recover from. Incompetence, for better or worse, is not a ground for impeachment. So it is urgently necessary that the Democrats lose control over the House, and if at all possible the Senate, in November.”
