Drew Litton: The Broncos – What a Blast!
If this is what the rest of the ride is like, I think I might just get off here. If you are a longtime Broncos fan, you will be feeling more than a little nauseous today. It’s not the Swine Flu. No. It’s the Broncos without a Clue. What hath Pat Bowlen wrought? Or Rot? We are witness to the complete dismantling of one of the NFL’s best franchises. Last night’s preseason loss to Jay Cutler and the Bears was the single most devastating preseason loss in Broncos history. Sure, it was only a preseason game you might say. But I think it was much much more. The beginning of the game had the fervor and intensity of a playoff game. This team wanted badly to beat Jay Cutler and the Bears, if only for some sense that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. They got their answer in the form of a Jay Cutler 98 yard “Elway-like Drive” that stuck the dagger in deep, most likely finishing this team’s season before it has even begun.
And I’m not sure which was worst. Seeing Cutler in a Bears uniform or Josh McDaniels in that ridiculous Belichick sleeveless sweatshirt. Hey Josh, Do the words “be your own man” mean anything to you? I didn’t think so.

Drew.
This is where you have to have faith in Pat Bowlen. I still don’t know why he fired Shanahan, but . .
However I do agree completely with you on new coach’s ridiculous Belichick hooded sweatshirt. It is sick. If he wants to shake up the establishment he ought to dress like Tom Landry. That would be class.
Settle down boys. Josh is going to be one of the top coaches in the NFL in a few years. Rome was not built in a day. We traded a petulant, childish, spoiled QB that, in spite of having a rocket arm, was leading us into pure mediocrity. And as far as Shanahan goes, the game has started to pass him by. Need I remind you 8 – 8 for the last 3 years, and the most incriminating; a 3 game lead with 3 to play last year.
Give it some time.
Wow, someone gets it. Broncos management has been at least as juvenile as they accuse Cutler of being. A veteran head coach would not have created this disaster. You don’t try to dump an employee, then get get all self-righteous when he gets upset that he isn’t wanted. McDaniels will be another failed Belicheck disciple. Period.
Look, this is simple. The Broncos were solid on offense, and if Bowlen was going to fire Shanahan he should have gone with an experienced, defense-oriented coach who would have concentrated on that side of the ball and basically leave Cutler and the offense alone to develop. But Bowlen screwed up, then McDaniels screwed up, and now the Broncos are screwed until they blow it all up and start all over again. McDaniels will be gone after a year…a long, brutal year.
All I can say is, anyone remember Jerry Kraus from the bulls?
No matter how good an offensive coordinator he is, a 32 old never been a head coach to come in and follow Mike Shanahan, impossible. That being said I love the broncos!
Get ready Bronco’s fans to be the Detroit Lions of 2009.
