We know of a couple of homeless dudes who hang out in front of Boulder, Colorado‘s public library who would probably dismiss the results of a new study finding that their city is the happiest and healthiest in the nation. But that’s the place where everyone’s chakras seem to line up better than anywhere else in the United States, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which is based on the interviews of more than 350,000 Americans. We’re sure Huntington, West Virginia, will dispute the results that imply it is essentially the grumpiest and least healthy place in the country. The Top 10 wasn’t too surprising — it included Honolulu, Hawaii (despite how expensive it is to live there). The New York region meanwhile seems to have taken its toll on residents. NYC was 94th. Los Angeles edged out the Big Apple at 71st and was a few notches ahead of Chicago (76th). Here’s the entire feel-good (or feel-bad) list, taking the pulse of Americans’ perceptions of their jobs, health, emotional state and other issues based on where they live (there’s a key to reading the index below):
