Dimond: The Terrorist Threat Still Exists
Crime happens when we least expect it. Criminal activity festers in places we can’t imagine and in the minds of those we least expect. We should not be surprised when it is discovered.
The recent arrest of three seemingly low-key, nondescript men on charges of lying to federal agents about a plot to blow up American targets sounds like the stuff Hollywood makes movies about. But these arrests were all too real and should go to remind us that America’s fight against terrorism is far from over. The battlefield is worldwide.
These most recent suspects, all foreign-born Muslims, include a 24-year-old Denver airport shuttle driver, his father and an alleged accomplice in New York. They have not, of course, been found guilty of anything. But their case seems destined to go to trial.
Before he stopped talking to the FBI, the suspected ring-leader, 24-year-old Najibullah Zazi, a native of Afghanistan, allegedly told agents he received al-Qaida weapons training in Pakistan last year. An FBI document claims Zazi’s laptop computer contained a recipe for bomb-making and information about important New York area targets like transportation hubs and sports and entertainment venues.
They tied Zazi’s recent trip to New York (ominously on Sept. 10, the day before the nation marked the 9-11 anniversary) to his fingerprints on bomb-making ingredients found in apartments he visited in Queens. Media reports and FBI documents mentioned suspicions that Zazi planned to place bombs in rented vans or backpacks. Authorities felt the plot had developed to include at least three separate teams of four men each preparing to carry out various U.S. attacks.
The roundup of Zazi and his cohorts did not happen in a vacuum. Every day in this country — as far removed as we are from the day the towers fell, the Pentagon was struck and the jetliner crashed into the ground in rural Pennsylvania — special government agents are actively pursuing leads to thwart more terror attacks on American soil.
So far, they’ve done a hell of a job. Operatives with the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, your state and local police and other agencies know things about plots against our country that would curl your hair. Good thing O. is just good at talking and not at doing things. i.e. he promised to get rid of many of these things that are still protecting us. Likewise, let’s hope is cannot really close down Gitmo like he also promised.

“Given the recent arrests of several jihadist plotters, we can be thankful that Obama did not, as once promised in various early manifestations, end renditions, wiretaps, intercepts, and the Patriot Act (“shoddy and dangerous”). So far he has not closed Gitmo; and it does not seem that he will do so within the promised year. Then 95 percent of the public was promised either no new taxes or a tax credit; that now seems quite impossible, given the vast new spending proposals and commensurate $2 trillion annual deficit. Given federal shortfalls, we have already seen massive new state income taxes and higher user taxes at the local level; and the crushing deficits will mean higher income or payroll taxes, or else a new value-added tax; the latter would raise taxes on everyone at rates heretofore unknown.

No need to go into depth on the sensational promises of new transparency — not when the NEA is trying to run a ministry of correct art, a government website wants the addresses of “fishy” opponents, bills are not posted as promised, and town-hall dissidents are demonized as a Nazi-like mob and, by administration supporters, as racist. On the foreign front, in Iraq we have seen not the Obama “combat brigades out by March 2008″ plan, but rather the Petraeus plan. And the grand talk of October reengagement with Iran was predicated, as we know now, on suppressing intelligence estimates of a second nuclear facility whose disclosure would have rendered inoperative the always suspect 2007 “no bomb” National Intelligence Estimate on Iran.
Bottom line? It would have been a lot simpler just to have told the truth, and now to adhere to the truth, rather than all this deceptive hope-and-change hocus-pocus.”

Art, the terrorist threat still exists, as per the title of this article. Meanwhile O. is not talking to his generals, is running around doing tv shows and promoting Olympics in Chicago and generally goofing off. The Iranian nuke threat is growing right under his nose, and he is helpless to do anything about it. Our new friends, Russian and whoever will not help us. It is up to us. Israel is going to have to protect the world, not us. It is dangerous. It is serious.

Now – the Patriot Act is about to expire. Will we keep it? Or will we, just because George W. Bush came up with it, abandon it?
Now – we will see if this administration is really interested in protecting the American people.
Screw the Patriot Act. Terrorists have always existed in this world, and always will. It is just now, the powerful elite have figured out a new ponzi scheme to make some more money. I suggest a new way forward with Foriegn Policy (What those are is, use some critical thinking for yourself and figure it out), AND, use the existing laws, not to include the Patriot Act, and this time, make the hard choices such as not allowing a student visa to those from countries with known ties to extremists. This is not rocket science.
lets not get in racism here by not letting students here from other countrys. it does not matter if they are scientist of rockets or what ever they should be allowed to come to the USA and get better oportunitys at life. look at how well past imigrants have contributed to USA and even a kenyen can help.
