Police Protective Association President Lt. Vincent Gavito said the new agreement would still have to be ratified by the membership, who will vote on it Oct. 5 and 6.

“Our preference has always been that police officers forgo pay raises next year so that no officers would have to be laid off. This proposal allows just that and preserves public safety,” Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said in a statement.

Mr. and Miss. Union member, please wake up and get with the times. We are in an economic crisis and this is not the time for old fashioned hard line union protocol. You need to bend and make concessions. Our own company is running lean and mean during this crappy economy and as things get better, we will be ready to bloom. But for now all of us should be in survival mode. Especially civil servants.
