Sen. Bennet lashes out at backroom deals
Colorado Senator Michael Bennet took to the floor of the Senate yesterday to respond to criticism that he did not extract any concessions for his constituents in the health care bill.
Bennet defended the criticism, saying “only in Washington would somebody be attacked for not negotiating a backroom deal.”
Bennet was referring specifically to deals like those made by Senate Democrats Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, both of whom forced amendments to the Senate bill that would divert resources to their states.
But in the end, it doesn’t appear that the Senator’s displeasure with his party’s tactics will change his vote.
I applaud Mr. Bennet on speaking out on this fraud.
I hope Mr. Bennet will now rise as a statesman and vote against this bill.
I am under few illusions, however this is a glimmer of hope. Michael Barone has a new column out regarding the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. That was when the Democrat Party was intent on keeping slavery in place, even against popular sentiment. Read “When legerdemain is used to pass an unpopular bill.”

Forget about those right winged nuts. All they think about is their own money schemes. I think it is high time to get this health cares done or the usa and then other countrys. Long gone is the time for arguing. I know that obama got the major parts of the votes of the world for usa president. Now cheny medias wants people to believe false facts that people do not like obana. Go now people and call the senator and say we want health cares even if it has back roomed deals.

Art – you do realize, I hope, that it was his own party Bennet was lashing out at? Several Democratic senators basically “sold” their votes on healthcare by getting perks for their states. Not that Republican Senators don’t have a reputation for doing the same – sadly enough, it truly is “business as usual”.
I applaud Bennet for his ethics, and the more I learn about his politics the more I like him. Unfortunately, those same ethics are likely to cost him his Senate seat – reminds me of Ralph Carr.
Still, he will have my vote.

If I may be so bold, Merry Christmas to you. . . I also wish Sen. Bennet would be more like Gov. Ralph Carr. 1) He was opposed to the FDR New Deal nonsense. 2) He was a R., so Sen. Bennet could denounce the Obama Loss-of -Freedom – Big gov. Deals. – and switch parties !! and then actually get elected on a popular vote by people who wanted real representation !! I know that is not what you had in mind, but I would encourage Sen. Bennet to be a maverick and take a stand rather than these Udall type D. boiler plate press releases that are sickening. Ever hear the one on health care – where it will reduce costs and make care available to so many more?? Sicking bildge.

Gene – Democrat notwithstanding, if you’ve been paying attention, Bennet has made several pro-business stands that have cost him dearly in his own party. While I’m sure none of it is pro-business enough for you, he has worked very hard to protect small businesses from unreasonable burdens with the new legislation.
A great many independents like myself like Senator Bennet a great deal. However, our numbers are not enough – we don’t get to vote in primaries without changing affiliation. Bennet’s principles have cost him a great deal of support in his own party; frankly, I don’t see him winning any primary. This is sad for both you and me, because whatever liberal beats him in the primary might very well win the election – I shudder at the thought, but some GOP neo-con is no better.

Of course benet was talking to democrats. What Ii mean is that they are paid off by chen money. No other way to explian them not getting more money to spenmd for the health cares fo all peoples. Talk is cheap as we all know……with any courage he would have voted no and worked to start the process over, fixing what needs to be fixed, thereby rejecting a government take over of the health care system. Obviously it is party before country.

It is evident that cheny works are changing people. MAybe no one sees how good obama is. Kind of sad to think that cheny false facts are believed.
