My group is doing just that, we are The Wickerdale Walkers and we are lobbying as a group of parents and community members for our children. Currently we are pressuring state and national lawmakers for real and substantial changes to the way education is funded and regulated. We just launched a blog this weekend and have a facebook page as well. We originally formed over our children’s transportation issues and having solved those moved on to the funding crisis. Please join our open forum blog and contribute ideas and join the discussions that are developing. Schools are a not for profit business that suffer under the heavy yoke of mandate and regulation. The ability to get out of the box and create solutions is in the realm of the voter and does not always have to take the form of a bond or a levy. It is up to the community to join with the teachers, parents, school board and unions to move the state in the direction we want.

Enough talks about education cuts. How come no one is talking about ways to fund schools? For the past year all we have read about is cuts, this is not a long-term solution or easy fix. What everyone needs to start doing is figuring out new ways to bring in funds, besides the fundraisers that are in place right now. They are not working! So here is my suggestion, use www,mainstreetfair.com to buy and sell items online and they will make a donation to a school of your choice, public or private.
