Announcing “Freshly Squeezed,” my new comic strip
On September 20, my new comic strip, “Freshly Squeezed,” published by United Features Syndicate, will launch in daily newspapers. Those of you who followed my “Denver Square” feature in the Rocky Mountain News will recognize the characters, although they’ve been updated a bit. In the new strip, Irv and Sarah, Liz’s parents and Nate’s grandparents, have lost their retirement savings in the economic collapse, and have moved in with their grown children and their grandchild. That’s when the inter-generational fun begins.
According the the Pew Research Center, multi-generation families are growing rapidly, with 49 million Americans living in multi-generation homes as of 2008, largely as a result of economic trends, and that number is surely larger today. Folks over 65 are the most likely to live this way. In other words, the strip is relevant and timely. And well-drawn and funny, and emotionally honest, if I do say so myself.
Now, here’s what I’m asking of you, dear readers: if you’d like to see “Freshly Squeezed” in your local daily paper, call them and tell them about it. Ask who buys the comic strips (usually the managing editor or the features editor) and speak with that person directly. Tell them you’ve heard about this great new strip, and that they should carry it in their comics pages.
Here are a few samples from the early weeks of “Freshly Squeezed.” Enjoy.

Good cartoon Ed.
I hope it does not resort to the lame liberal diatribe of the old Denver Square. While this particular Freshly Squeezed does not do that, it teeters on the edge of accepting the New Obama Economy. It is HIS economy you are describing. You do know that? It is Obama’s War. It is Obama’s Economy.
But let’s hope for the best!
Good Luck on your new venture.
Good luck on the new comic strip. I loved Denver Square and was sad that Sam lost his job and had to leave Denver within 3 months of when we did for the same reason. It will be nice to see how they are faring.
It’s sad to see that some people find it necessary to slam the President of the United States even when the comic didn’t say a thing about politics. I guess if they say it often enough they hope people will believe them. Just continue drawing and writing what touches you and I’ll keep reading.
I hope I can get the Statesman Journal in Salem, Oregon to carry the new strip. It’s worth a phone call.
kathy you are so right to see that obama has slammed a home run and has done everythign he said. he has turned around the usa from the messes that w bush brought to the common man. i am so glad that obama has made the economy the best ever just as obama said he would.

Sorry to have brought up The Ones name. But Kathy, I just saw a new bumper sticker that must have inspired Ed Stein’s cartoon. . . .
“Obama Economics: Trickle-Up Poverty.”
I’m glad I don’t know you fellas. What jerks. If your writting has anything to say “who you are” then you most certainly drink alot and simply pu, graduated with honors from kindergarden.
Reality — this economy happened because people like you are too bone-headed to know how to balance a check book., let alone have the ability to consider the needs of others in a community. Telling the truth is outdatted and foriegn to you, but not to the majority of Americans. The cartoons will be empathetic in nature and talk about how people are being affected by greed, rudness, corseness, selfishness and ignorance. I think you guys qualify for all of the above.
During the depression, people read the Sunday cartoons with relish to see that someone actually understood what they were going through. I think this is a good thing and will allow people comfort in trying times. It’s certainly better than hanging around calling people names and making fun of them.
I refuse to release my drinking or educational accomplishments.
lorettas,
it is so good to see that you know the good of obama. and you are so right to know i can balance books on my head. i can even still balance a basketball on my finger. and you are so right to know that only obama offers the great comfort in these tried times. he is the few one of man that can help people and it is good to see all the help he gives everyone.

Arto,
Lorettas may be a sucker for all things Obama,
but she will never fall for that trick with the basketball and your finger.
You guys are both wrong. It has nothing to do with politics. Just a good human interest cartoon that
is amusing and hits home with us elders as well as our children and grandchildren. I Love it.
